MOUNT VERNON — Today’s session of the hearing on a proposed Winco Foods store in Mount Vernon has been canceled. The hearing resumes Nov. 18.

Rebecca Lowell, a senior planner with the city’s Community and Economic Development Department, said the session was canceled when the appellant group said it no longer had testimonies to present on the issues scheduled to be discussed at today’s session.

The session was scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. at the Mount Vernon Police and Court Campus, 1805 Continental Place. Lowell said discussion of the issues scheduled for today will be moved to Nov. 18 at the same time and place.

How the proposed Winco store would affect nearby flooding, stormwater, fisheries and wetlands were the issues that would have been discussed at today’s session, which was scheduled to possibly last until 5 p.m.

Lowell said she is not sure at this time whether the appellant is dropping these issues all together.

Other issues brought up in the appeal include additional noise, light and traffic. The appellant’s presentation began at the first session Oct. 8 after a public comment period.
