MOUNT VERNON — Erin Johnson had a goal, Tiffany Cruse had a shutout and the Mount Vernon girls’ soccer team got a 1-0 victory over Bellingham on Tuesday to keep pace in the competitive Northwest Conference.

Johnson scored off an Ashley Morrison assist on the goal that proved the difference.

“We were going to win it by a goal or lose it by a goal. It was back forth — they had chances, we had chances,” Mount Vernon coach Gary Warman said.

He said Tia Brogna played well for the Bulldogs (8-2, 5-2).

“Tia was the most energetic player for us. She created so much up front,” he said.
