SEDRO-WOOLLEY — United General Hospital announced Friday that it will close its senior psychiatric unit because of rising annual costs and falling reimbursement.
The unit is expected to close by the end of September.
The hospital reported having an annual deficit of $250,000 from the 10-bed unit in 2006 and 2007. The unit provides voluntary and involuntary inpatient care to seniors. Involuntary patients are held for three days and then kept if a local court approves detaining them.
The decision follows similar closures at facilities in Snoqualmie and Chelan.
