Anacortes’ Caranza Farrell gets set Wednesday to take the baton from teammate James No.

ANACORTES — The Burlington-Edison girls’ track and field team won its 42nd straight dual meet, its third straight Northwest Conference title and posted its third straight undefeated regular season Wednesday, all in a rain-shortened meet.

Chelsea Genther won two hurdle events, the Tigers won all three relays and Burlington-Edison topped Anacortes and Bellingham on a day when several field events were not held because of rain.

The Tigers beat Anacortes 90-65 and Bellingham 104-45 to improv to 9-0.

“That’s a big accomplishment,” Burlington-Edison coach Kevin Gudgel said of the girls’ feats.

Genther won the 100 hurdles (15.7 seconds) and 300 hurdles (52.2), and the Tigers won the 400 (51.2), 800 (1:53.6) and 1,600 (4:26.2) relays.

Teira Graham won the javelin throw (102 feet, 2 inches) and high jump (4-6) for the Tigers.

Long jump, triple jump and pole vault were wiped out by weather.

Tyler Williams won the 400 (52.6) and 800 (2:05.5) to help the Tigers to a victory in the boys’ meet.

Anacortes’ Thomas Kassa won the 200 (22.7) and high jump (5-2). Caranza Farrell won the 100 (11.4) and javelin (141-9).

“Thomas won the 200 against a great competitor and beat him by a hair,” Anacortes coach Case DeVries said of Kassa’s win over Bellingham’s Brock Steff (22.8).

DeVries said he was also impressed by Ariel Madden’s win in the 400 (1:04)

Sehome, Lynden at Sedro-Woolley

SEDRO-WOOLLEY — Cody Pohren won the two hurdle events in the boys’ meet for the Cubs, claiming the 110 hurdles (16.68) and the 300 (41.44).

Mount Vernon at Lynden Christian

LYNDEN — Josh Crandall won two events in the boys’ meet to help the Bulldogs win the Northwest Conference title.

Mount Vernon’s Tia Brogna won two events in the girls’ meet.

Crandall won the 200 (24.12) and 400 (52.15). Brogna won the 200 (26.99) and 400 (59.47).

Mount Vernon won the boys’ meet 111-34 and the girls’ meet 104-43.

“The kids ran well and we had some great field events,” Mount Vernon coach John Lee said, adding that five of the six competitors in the girls’ 1,600 ran personal-best times and Emily Noste added a winning personal-best in the shot put (32-8).

Boys’ Soccer

Oak Harbor Wildcats 2
Lake Stevens 0

OAK HARBOR — Greg Wolfe and Michael Shevchuk scored to help lift the Wildcats to a 6-10 finish in their Western Conference North Division finale.

The victory moved the Wildcats into a three-way tie for fifth place.

Everett Seagulls 2
Stanwood Spartans 2

STANWOOD — The Spartans got goals from Joey Livesay and Jorge Garcia to improve to 2-12-2 in the Western Conference North Division finale for both teams.

Boys’ Golf

Everett, Jackson at Stanwood

STANWOOD — Stanwood’s Wade Smith and Jackson’s Barret McGinnis tied for medalist honors by shooting matching 79s in a tight field that saw the top six golfers within two strokes of each other.

Jackson’s five golfers shot 82 or better, helping the Timberwolves win the team competition with 403 points. Stanwood was second at 426 and Everett third at 430.

Northwest Conference at Homestead Farms

LYNDEN — Chuckie Holyoke and Bryce Hobbs shot matching 78s to tie for fifth and help Mount Vernon tie Squalicum for second place in the Northwest Conference meet.

Squalicum’s Matt Rawitzer earned medalist honors with a 73, two strokes better than Lynden’s Will Holdridge.

Lynden dominated the team scoring with five golfers shooting 80 or better to finish at 388. Mount Vernon and Squalicum were each 26 strokes back at 414, while Anacortes was sixth at 447. Jim Casey led the Seahawks with an 84.

Rainouts

All area softball and tennis action was rained out Wednesday.

No makeup dates have been announced for most of the events.

Stanwood and Marysville-Pilchuck will make up their softball game on May 14, and Burlington-Edison versus Lakewood tennis was moved to Friday.
