An approximately 70-acre wildfire is burning within the Ross Lake National Recreation Area, according to a National Park news release.
The fire was caused by lightning and was detected June 28.
It is burning on extremely steep terrain on the east side of Ruby Mountain above Panther Creek, the release says.
The fire is burning in a heavily forested area and is expected to grow over the weekend because of the hot and dry weather. No firefighters are on the mountain due to the steep and dangerous terrain, the release says.
Smoke is visible from Highway 20 and Ross Lake.
