MOUNT VERNON — The hearing about a proposed Winco Foods Store here ended Monday, though a decision from the hearing examiner is not expected until mid-December.

Two previous sessions of the hearing had been canceled due to settlements between Winco and the appellant group, Citizens for a Sustainable Mount Vernon.

The final session of the hearing Monday consisted mostly of testimony from each party about how traffic around the site at College Way and Urban Avenue might be affected by the proposed structure.

Once the hearing examiner makes a decision, the City Council will hold its own a hearing about the store before voting.

Rebecca Lowell, a senior planner with the city’s Community and Economic Development Department, said the council’s hearing will consist of some further testimony, but only from those who have been previously involved with the case by submitting written comments, for example.

Winco is a good store better than anything you have in Mt. Vernon at this time.
