The river is beginning to erode the bank west of Highway 530 at milepost 59 and is threatening to undermine the highway, WSDOT officials said.
Construction crews are currently building a “log crib wall” in the Sauk River near the highway that is expected to be complete by Oct. 17.
The wall will consist of 112 steel pilings, 15,000 cubic yards of woody debris and dirt and 355 logs.
Traffic will be reduced to one lane south of Rockport as trees are cleared and heavy equipment is moved.
The westbound lane of Highway 530 will be closed from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Drivers can expect delays of up to 30 minutes.
