County finalizes $2.9 million in cuts

Skagit County commissioners Tuesday approved sweeping cuts to county services and staff to close a $2.9 million gap in the county’s $49 million general fund budget.

The cuts mean no more hot breakfasts for jail inmates and no more recreational programs for seniors, to name just two…

I don’t really like the layoffs nor the cuts in senior services.

I hate to sound like I’ve gone far-left, but this is the consequence of Tim Eyman initiative after Tim Eyman initiative.  Oh and also the consequence of a very long streak of audit findings.

Tim Eyman ?  You have to be insane.

Can you spell Obama, The “Baffoon” has not created one new job in the private sector.

The people that voted for the “community organizer” are finding out what he really meant by “Change You Can Believe In”

Every dollar he has spent has gone toward bigger and more intrusive government.  No government can survive by taking from the producers in order to give to non producers.  If the people want to see a strong economy the only method that has historically worked is for the government to cut taxes and let the private sector create real jobs.

Anyone who thinks that the government can tax their way to prosperity is is delusional.

The Oracle - good points as well on Obama!  I voted McCain-Palin!

But when revenue generation is cut again and again by Eymanism - fueled in part by your views and mine that audit findings matter and yet are like spitwads against a Stryker, this is what you get - massive county gov’t cuts.

Why dont they get rid of the code enforcement, isnt that what police are for? enforcing city rules? instead they have several people running around town harassing people about there private properties, and we pay for it. But no.....they instead want to get rid of Senior programs and hot oatmeal, how about they get rid of the police that sit outside of bars all day waiting for that one drunk to get in his car, while the house next door is being robbed.....you know the few lazy cops of Skagit County.

mykodragon - they did get rid of code enforcement.  I don’t agree w/ that one.  Code Enforcement is so people who trash their property with junk cars, have piles of toxins and the like are appropriately dealt with.

mykodragon........Good point about code enforcers.

Burlington has this PROBLEM and they’re used mainly for petty harassment of small businesses.

It seems that the more city employees the more they have to justify their jobs.  Burlington is becoming hostile to business and it seems to grow proportional to the number of city employees.

The Oracle - it depends on community to community, from urban to rural.  In my area, we’ve got this scofflaw dumping cars and violating noise & burn regs as well.

Apparently you dont live in Sedro-Woolley where you will find code enforcement driving their trucks all over the place, on are tax money, and for what because there is this one person who cant afford tabs on their car, thats parked in a public area, in front of their house. Or the elderly person that cant afford, or able to mow their lawns on a weekly schedule. Or example, my parents both disabled whom my grand pa lived with until he passed, leaving behind on their property 2 trailers, 2 trucks and misc. other stuff that they cant get rid of, due to lack of paper work, or money.....and what does code enforcement do? I will tell you, they harass them with threats of fines, and liens on their house. They even went as far as to steal my daughters 16th birthday present from her (Nissan Maxima) because I at the time parked it in the parking strip in front of their house, the strip that my parents have used for over 30 years, and dint tab the car waiting for it to become closer to my daughters birthday. Just to get their in time for code enforcement to tell me that they are taking my daughters car and said oh-well, I should have tabbed it. See to me that is tax payers money that should not be spent on a bunch of wannabe god cops whos only perpose is to harass!!!!!!
