
Youngsters can “Catch the Reading Bug” and teens can check out “Metamorphosis @ Your Library” with performances, activities, prizes and more at the annual summer reading program June 16 to Aug. 9 at the Anacortes Public Library.
All activities are free for residents and non-residents alike. Registration starts June 16 in the children’s area.
In “Catch the Reading Bug!” children up to grade 6 earn prizes and a final paperback book by reading or listening one hour per week for eight weeks.
San Juan Lanes provides a free game of bowling for each youngster who completes the program. Storytime is 11:15 a.m. Thursdays for younger “readers.”
Entertainers and special events include Silly Dan the Magic Man, a puppet show, magician Louie Foxx, crafts, live walking sticks and more. There will be a special grand finale celebration with theater troupe Last Leaf Productions.
Children who are not registered for the reading program may come to any of the library activities.

“Metamorphosis @ Your Library” is for students going into seventh grade or higher. Teens need to read 15 hours over the course of eight weeks to earn a prize paperback of their choice.

• A “fashion metamorphosis makeover” at the Anacortes library, July 9
• A game night at the Anacortes library Friday, July 18
• A murder mystery night at the Mount Vernon City Library, July 25
The reading programs are presented by the Anacortes Public Library in conjunction with other Skagit County libraries.
Donors include the Friends of the Anacortes Public Library, the Anacortes Noon Kiwanis Club, Soroptimist International of Anacortes and Soroptimist International of Fidalgo Island.
