BURLINGTON — The state Department of Transportation will hold an open house June 24 to discuss plans for Interstate 5 between Conway and Cook Road.

The event will be held from 4:30 to 7 p.m. at the Burlington Public Library, 820 E. Washington Ave.

“More than half of the ramps between Conway and Cook Road are too short or sharp,” according to the DOT, and “congestion on local streets clogs interchanges and causes dangerous backups on the interstate.”

Those and other safety and traffic problems are to be addressed in a new I-5 master plan, currently being developed by the DOT.

Planned improvements include redesigned interchanges with longer ramps and new merge lanes. The final plan should be released in August.

Those who cannot attend the open house are invited to comment about current I-5 conditions and plans for the roadway at 360-757-5982 or by e-mail at . Or visit http://www.wsdot.wa.gov/Projects/I5/SR534CookRoadStudy to learn more about the project and give feedback.
