A Fisher & Sons Inc. employee died this morning of injuries received in a fall at the Janicki Industries construction site in Hamilton.

A second worker was treated at Skagit Valley Hospital for nonlife-threatending injuries and released.

The victim, 34-year-old Caine Covert, was a job superintendent who had worked for the company for 15 years, said Jerome Fisher, company president.

Covert, a Mount Vernon resident, was married and the father of two children.

He was transported to United General Hospital in Sedro-Woolley after the accident, which occurred at around 9:30 this morning, Fisher said.

A shaken Fisher described Covert’s passing as like a “death in the family.”

“He’s worked for the company since he was 18, 19 years old,” Fisher said. “He’s a close friend of mine. His father-in-law has worked for the company longer than I have.”

Work at the site was suspended pending an investigation into the accident, according to the site superintendent, Frank Del Gaudio.
