After a gray and gloomy morning of drizzle and fog, the sun emerged for the 154 runners and walkers who participated in the 11th annual Dog Island Run June 5 on Guemes Island.
“We had a great turnout,” said organizer Tim Wittman.
Many were from Anacortes and surrounding areas, and one man came from Canada by way of Uruguay.
In the 10K run, the only timed event, most participants completed the course in a little under an hour. Escorted to the finish line by Guemes Island’s Anne Casperson in her all-electric car “Lady Bug,” the overall winner in the men’s division, was Jeff Hambleton, who completed the course in 39 minutes and 32 seconds.
The first-place winner for women was Lauren Obryan with a time of 43:42. Remaining times for each of the 10K participants will be posted soon at LineTime.org.
The Guemes Island Library Board and Skagit Runners expressed their gratitude to the dedicated volunteers who helped to make this year’s event the fantastic success that it was, Wittman said.
