ANACORTES — The state Parks and Recreation Commission has canceled a public hearing that was scheduled to discuss a possible transfer of Huckleberry Island to the Samish Indian Nation.
The state-owned Huckleberry Island, a 10-acre island near Guemes Island, is among properties statewide that the commission feels should not be retained as part of the state parks system.
But a commission spokesman said Thursday that the July 2 meeting was canceled because the commission has “things it needs to work through,” and it was premature to schedule a comment period.
