Two men have been arrested in connection with a fatal June shooting in Burlington that police say began as a bar fight at a Mexican restaurant in Mount Vernon.

It all started on June 12 with a comment that one man was giving “bad looks” to another man at the restaurant’s bar, and it ended with the slaying of the brother of one of those men.

Court documents outline a sequence of events leading up to the shooting of Walter Chacon-Villanueva, 34, of Sedro-Woolley. He was shot in the head as he drove his vehicle down a Burlington road.

Court documents filed in the Wednesday arrests of 22-year-old Armando Duniga Menchaca Jr. of Burlington and 31-year old David Alejandro Ugalde of Sedro-Woolley indicate that a fight between two people spiraled out of control. Friends and relatives got involved, and the fight ultimately left at least two people injured and Chacon-Villanueva dead.

Police arrested Menchaca and Ugalde for investigation of second-degree murder and are seeking Ugalde’s brother Luis Ugalde as a person of interest.

Bail for each of the two in custody was set at $500,000.
