A 32-year-old Anacortes man was arrested after an altercation with an officer that ended with the man being tased.

An officer saw the man driving near the 2400 block of Commercial Avenue around 6:15 p.m. Monday, July 7. The officer confirmed the man did not have a driver’s license and had two warrants for his arrest for failure to appear in court on driving without a license charges.

The officer contacted the man at 24th Street and Commercial Avenue and took him into custody. The man resisted the officer’s efforts and had to be subdued with a Taser.

After he was in custody, officers found suspected methamphetamine on the man’s person. The man reportedly told officers he resisted arrest because he did not want to be found in possession of the drugs.

Friday, July 4

• A 28-year-old Anacortes man was arrested on charges of felony violation of a domestic violence no-contact order after an incident in Washington Park around 2:15 p.m. Witnesses called police after a woman screamed for help as she struggled to keep her infant son in her arms as the baby’s father tried to remove him. The man left after the police were called but they found and arrested him. The man had previously been ordered by the court to stay away from his wife. Because an assault occurred during their contact, violation of the order is a felony. The woman and infant were not injured in the incident.

The next day, the man again violated the order by calling the woman from jail.

• A 61-year-old man faces charges of being in physical control of a vehicle while intoxicated after an incident at the July 4 fireworks display around 10:20 p.m. An officer was waved down by a citizen who said a Jeep was parked in front of a fire hydrant, blocking the view of people sitting on the sidewalk to watch the fireworks. When they asked the driver to move, he refused and showed signs of intoxication. The officer contacted the man sitting in his vehicle. He failed field sobriety tests. He was arrested and taken to the Police Department for a Breathalyzer test.

Saturday, July 5

• A Burlington man was the victim of a vehicle prowl at Ray Auld Road while he hiked in the Forest Lands around 10:45 a.m. When he returned to his car he found a ventilation window was opened and $800 worth of climbing gear was taken. Police collected some physical evidence at the scene.

Sunday, July 6

• A 23-year-old Anacortes man was arrested on charges of possession of drug paraphernalia after police contacted him in the 1100 block of 12th St. Officers received a call of suspicious activity in the area just before 2 a.m. and found a group of men in front of a convenience store. The 23-year-old had an outstanding arrest warrant for failure to serve two days in jail on a previous possession of marijuana conviction. During the arrest officers found two marijuana pipes and cited the man for possession.

• An Anacortes woman returned from a hike in the Forest Lands around 1:30 p.m. to find she was the victim of a vehicle prowl. The incident happened at the trail head on A Avenue near 37th Street. The woman locked her purse in the trunk but left her windows partially open for ventilation. The thieves gained access to the interior of the vehicle, opened the trunk and took the purse and it contents.

• A 33-year-old Seattle man was arrested on a charge of DUI after passing motorists in the 2200 block of Commercial Avenue called 911. Witnesses said a beige work van with a ladder rack on top kept bumping into the west side curb of Commercial as it traveled southbound around 3:30 p.m. An officer caught up with the van on Highway 20 east of Christianson Road, where the van was straddling the center line of the westbound lane. The officer activated his lights and sirens but the driver kept going until he was across the slough bridge. The driver appeared intoxicated and after a brief investigation he was taken into custody. The driver also had a DUI warrant out of Seattle with an unusually high $10,000 bail attached to it. He was booked into jail.

• A restaurant in the 5400 block of Ferry Terminal Road reported four potted plants valued at a total of $100 were taken from the front of the restaurant overnight.

• A 25-year-old Oak Harbor man was ticketed for consuming alcohol in the Forest Lands around 4:30 p.m. Officers have stepped up patrols in the Forest Lands this summer and are citing anyone they find with alcohol.

• An 18-year-old Anacortes man was arrested for an outstanding warrant for possession of drug paraphernalia and cited for driving with a suspended license after an officer spotted a 1984 Honda in the 1000 block of 17th Street without valid license tabs.

The owner of the vehicle, who was a passenger, was also cited for knowingly allowing an unlicensed driver to operate the vehicle. A small amount of various prescription medications was also found in the car. The officer is following up to see if additional drug charges are appropriate.

• A woman in the 4500 block of Kingsway reported an expensive ruby and diamond ring was missing from her jewelry box this morning. The woman and her husband were away for a couple of days and left their adult children at home. The woman told officers she wished to pursue the matter without police assistance.

Monday, July 7

• A 57-year-old Anacortes woman was arrested on a charge of negligent driving after her 1995 Ford Windstar van struck a 2006 BMW sedan parked in the 1400 block of M Avenue around 12:30 p.m. Witnesses told police the woman got out of the van and placed a bottle of liquor in the bushes near the van. The officer noticed the woman smelled of alcohol. The woman would not answer any questions and was taken to the Police Department for a Breathalyzer test.

Wednesday, July 9

• Officers were called to a motel in the 2000 block of Commercial Avenue after a resident there claimed he was threatened with a gun by an 18-year-old Mount Vernon man around 10:15 p.m. The victim told officers the suspect came to his room and accused him of stealing a car stereo. He said the man pointed a handgun at him and threatened him. Several of the victim’s family and friends there confirmed the story. Mount Vernon Police contacted the suspect several hours later and arrested him. No gun was found. The investigation continues.

Thursday, July 10

• A 50-year-old Seattle woman was arrested for writing numerous checks on a closed bank account in the Anacortes area over the past few weeks. When questioned, the woman told officers she has a problem with alcohol. The checks included a rent check for $650 and about $400 to other local businesses.

Friday, July 11

• A 43-year-old Sedro-Woolley woman reported her car stolen around 2:15 a.m. She drove her gray 1993 Chevrolet Corsica to Anacortes from Mount Vernon at about 5 p.m. July 10. She said she left a 25-year-old Mount Vernon man in the car when she went inside a business in the 2800 block of Commercial Avenue. When she returned, her vehicle and the man were gone. She told officers the man was an acquaintance and she does not know where he lives. The investigation continues.
