MOUNT VERNON — A knife fight early Friday morning led to two men being taken to the hospital, one of whom was later arrested.
A 19-year-old Mount Vernon man was arrested for investigation of first-degree assault in an attack of a 21-year-old Mount Vernon man with a pocket knife, police said.
In the attack, he cut his chin and was treated at Skagit Valley Hospital before being booked.
The 21-year-old man was also treated at the hospital for lacerations to the neck, shoulder and lip. He was later released.
The two were spotted fighting in the road at the intersection of Continental Place and East College Way at about 12:30 a.m. by a Washington State Patrol Trooper.
The trooper held the men at gunpoint until Mount Vernon police officers arrived, said Jill Boudreau, community service officer for the Mount Vernon Police Department.
The 19-year-old is not talking to the police, and the victim says the attack was unprovoked, Boudreau said.
