MOUNT VERNON — A downtown apartment building was evacuated after a man pulled the fire alarm, climbed out of a window into a tree and stripped off his clothes, according to a Mount Vernon police spokeswoman.

Numerous passersby called the police about the 39-year-old nude man, who was spotted shouting in the tree around 9:15 a.m.

The man then climbed down the tree and ran back into the building, where police found him in his apartment.

Officials took him to the Skagit Valley Hospital for a mental health evaluation.
