SEDRO-WOOLLEY — A handcuffed fugitive escaped arrest by dodging a police officer Saturday afternoon.

The man was driving on Highway 20 when a Sedro-Woolley police officer pulled him over and tried to arrest him on an outstanding state Department of Corrections felony warrant, Police Chief Doug Wood said.

The fugitive, a Sedro-Woolley resident in his 20s, was handcuffed behind his back. He escaped when the officer tried to put him in the patrol car, Wood said.

The fugitive started running and the officer chased him, but the officer was hampered by a muscle strain in his leg, Wood said. The suspect eluded capture and was last seen in the area of Coates Lane.

Wood asked anyone who sees a handcuffed man to call 911.
