Skagit County commissioners will hold a public hearing Monday on proposed increases and other changes to the fares on the Guemes Island ferry.
The changes would go into effect Jan. 1. The county, in consultation with a group of island residents, suggests eliminating the three-month and six-month unlimited ride passes and the annual senior/disabled pass.
Only some fares would increase under the proposal. The fee for a single vehicle with driver would go up $1. The proposed schedule of fares for oversized vehicles also includes increases.
However, walk-on passengers would not see a fare increase under the proposal.
The hearing begins at 9:30 a.m. at the county commissioners’ hearing room, 1800 Continental Place, Mount Vernon.
Commissioners’ meetings are being held on Monday this week instead of the usual Tuesday to honor Veterans Day.
