CLEAR LAKE — A 49-year-old Mount Vernon man was arrested Wednesday night for investigation of assault after he reportedly broke the nose of the 47-year-old woman he lives with, according to the Skagit County Sheriff’s Office.

An argument between the two escalated into the assault Sunday as they were driving in Clear Lake. They exited the car, and the woman was hit in the face, said spokeswoman Kay Walker.

The assault wasn’t reported for several days. But deputies tracked down people who were in the area at the time and saw the incident, Walker said.

The man has been arrested in the past for domestic violence, she said.
