These new businesses opened recently in Skagit County:

MOUNT VERNONByWater Psychiatric Consultation opened in March.

The psychiatric practice offers treatment and medication consultation for anxiety, depression and other psychological ailments.

ByWater owner Elizabeth Holmes, a registered nurse practitioner, said she works with patients on specific treatment plans and does not meet with them for personal counseling.

“I’m like a great sports coach,” said Holmes, explaining that she meets with patients nine to 10 times and helps them develop habits or take medication to help anxiety and depression.

ALGERThe Alger Community Flea Market opened in April.
Eighty vendors operate on 60,000 square feet of land on Old Highway 99 selling “anything you can imagine, from kitchen sinks to rifles,” said market organizer D.J. Sutherland.
Sutherland said he started the market in response to the economic downturn to help people sell items for a low price to people who need them.
