The Clear Lake Triathlon will be held this summer, despite early indications that it would be canceled due to a lack of funds in the county Parks and Recreation Department.
“We’ve had overwhelming community support to keep this thing going with volunteers,” Recreation Coordinator Tony Tewalt said Monday.
Parks Director Bob Vaux had said the triathlon would be canceled after $330,000 in cuts to his department were announced last week.
The race, which combines swimming, bicycling and running, will be held at Clear Lake Beach on July 18.
The event typically draws 250 youth and adult participants.
