The Sauk-Suiattle Tribal Public Safety Department, Stillaguamish Tribe and four Snohomish County fire districts have combined resources to form the Stillaguamish Water Rescue Team.
The fire districts are Nos. 21 in Arlington Heights, 24 in Darrington, 19 in Silvana and 25 in Oso.
Officials with the tribes, police and fire departments say that the inter-agency cooperative effort will be able to bring together many more resources than could one or two agencies.
The Stillaguamish Water Rescue Team has a number of nationally certified water rescue technicians, two jet boats, two hovercraft, two inflatable craft, as well as thousands of dollars in water rescue equipment, to respond to calls for help on the regional river systems and lakes, agency officials said.
