Chris Anderson is resigning from the Anacortes School District board after nearly six years in the position.

“Personal issues have made it difficult to give the time and energy I feel necessary to do justice to the work of the board,” he said in his letter of resignation.

Anderson said he has enjoyed the experience.

“In 35 years, working with over 15 different school boards, Anacortes is far and above any district where I have worked before,” he said.

The board is expected to accept his resignation at its Thursday meeting.

Anderson was elected to his position in November 2003, replacing John Pope. He was re-elected in 2007.

The School Board will appoint someone to fill the position until the general election.

David Cunningham at the county elections office said a special three-day filing period will be held in early July. Everyone who files will be on the general election ballot Nov. 3. Whoever wins will serve the remainder of the term, which ends in 2011.

Two other board positions are up for election this year and both candidates are uncontested — Mitch Everton, Position 1 and Kris Lytton, Position 2. Both at-large positions are for four-year terms.
