The road to North Cascades National Park’s most popular day-hiking trail opened Thursday for the season.
Drivers can now access the Cascade Pass Trail from Cascades River Road, which begins in Marblemount.
Crews were able to complete repairs and clear a slide 21 miles up Cascade River Road to open the road in time for the summer hiking season.
The Cascade Pass Trailhead provides access to areas for day hiking, climbing and backcountry camping, and is the gateway to Stehekin and Lake Chelan.
More repairs are needed on Cascade River Road before the traditional close of the season. The road will be closed starting Sept. 1 at Hard Creek Bridge, milepost 12.7, but will be kept open for Labor Day weekend, Sept. 4-7.
