As soon as the sun sets, the pops, bangs and flashes of light begin. Well before, and even for a while after, the Fourth of July, proud patriots will be popping off mini explosives across the county.

Some cities establish restrictions, even outright bans, against fireworks. But there are a number of areas in county or tribal land that people can enjoy their sparklers, roman candles and even bottle rockets.

Whether you prefer to watch your fireworks from a distance, or prefer to light the fuse yourself, there are opportunities across the county to enjoy some safe and legal pyrotechnics.

What’s legal:

• In Washington State: sparklers, cylindrical fountains, illuminating torches, wheels, ground spinners, flitter sparklers, mine/shells, smoke devices, helicopter aerial spinners, roman candles.
