A 20-year-old Mount Vernon man was arrested Friday morning in connection to the alleged rape of a 14-year-old girl earlier this week, according to the Burlington police.

He is being held for investigation in the Skagit County Jail.

Police originally believed the man was a stranger to the girl, but now say the suspect and victim knew each other, but the nature of the relationship was unclear, Burlington Detective Sgt. Scott Butler said on Friday.

The girl was alone in her aunt’s and uncle’s apartment in west Burlington at about 8 a.m. Tuesday morning when the man came into her home. The girl encountered the man in her living room and he attacked her, Butler said.

After the rape he fled the apartment, Butler said.

The rape was reported later that night. The girl suffered a bruise on her chin, Butler said.

Butler said the man left a photo of himself with the victim. Police were able to identify him from the photo and arrest him, Butler said.

And he doesn’t have a name? Maybe its becuase the relationship between the 20 yr old man and the 14 yr old girl is one of those cultural things that wouldn’t be illegal in their home country, but is here in backwards America. Maybe this whole thing was just a lovers spat that involved a little violence, you know like the soap operas you see on Univision. Well, who knows. Except for the police who investigated this crime and those involved in it. Certianly not The goSkagit.com. Hey, goSkagit if the police were to hand you a story saying that little green men from Mars landed in our county would you even bother to ask one critical question?

...’The girl encountered the man in her living room and he attacked her, Butler said.’

I think that would equal rape in any country.

I can’t figure out, AmericanSDL.com, if you are just trying to entice an arguement, are a total Pig, Racist, or just plain stupid.  Maybe all four?

Hung up on your ‘cultural’ issue, SDL?

Good news that the man left his picture at the scene of the crime.

I think I’m just confused about why this particular rape is getting so much attention. Rape happens most often to girls in this age group, by people who know them. This is unfortunately not a unique situation. I feel like continuing to report on it can only cause more harm to the victim who has to then continually relive probably the worst memory of her life.

The community interests are served by knowing the rapist has been apprehended.  Imagining the young teenaged victim is reading a newspaper is a stretch.

But you’re right, this young-aged group falls prey to the sexual interests of adult men quite often.

I understand it serves the community interest to know the rapist was caught. My question was why this particular rape is any more important than all the other rapes that happen in this area.
Yes, it may be unusual for a teenager to read a newspaper, but it’s not unheard of. And even if the victim herself doesn’t read it, other people close to her might. It’s not too far fetched to think that she would hear about it being in the newspaper.

Also, teenage girls are more at risk but not just from older men. Since consent is not something that is taught to most teenagers a lot of rapes happen by boys their own age who are on dates with girls this age.

Hey common sense I can’t figure out if you are just a typical liberal who has to label everyone who disagrees with you in order for you to feel superior or do you do what most liberals do and perpetuate stereotypes or both. It doesn’t really matter you are obvious not capable of independent thought. You see by cultural I mean that in third world countries like the ones south of our borders, Murderers aren’t even prosecuted much less the rapist of a 14 yr old girl where the age of consent in most of those countries is 14.

OH yeah, in case your wondering my wife is Mexican American. She came here legally and doesn’t care much for people who come here ilegally. O O I guess that doesn’t fit to well into your liberal stereotype.

O Yeah, and I wasn’t born in America either but I was born an American citizen. I’ve lived 15 years out of 46 yrs in foreign countries. I admit most of those were while I was serving in the military, I hope that helps you out with your stereotyping.

That isn’t the subject.

I can understand why this rape was reported and many are not.  When a young girl is raped it is usually by a relative, family friend, or date.  In other words, the general public is not a risk.  In this case, the crime was reported when the perpetrator was a stranger, making the victim random.  It was in the best interest of the general public to know about the crime so that they could practice extra diligence. I don’t intend to make excuses for the Herald; I think the circumstances warranted the coverage.

Hey Smile here are some facts you might have missed.

The rape was reported later that night. The girl suffered a bruise on her chin, Butler said.

This probably wasn’t a rape so much as a 14 yr old girl getting caught with her 20 yr old boyfriend and her aunt and uncle going off. I wouldn’t be surprise if she is pregnant.
