Funding for a comprehensive study of flood-control projects on the Skagit River passed a Senate subcommittee Wednesday.
The version of the 2010 appropriations bill to come out of the Energy and Water Appropriations Subcommittee includes $550,000 for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ General Investigation Study of Skagit flood-protection projects. The study, which began in 1997, will need $1.3 million a year in federal funding if it is to be completed on schedule in 2012, corps officials have said.
The bill must still face the full Appropriations Committee before going to the full Senate for consideration.
The House version of the bill, which has come out of the Water and Energy Committee, includes $300,000 for the Skagit study.
