by Staff Report

Heavy snow will close Highway 20, also called the North Cascades Highway, at 4 p.m. today.

The state Department of Transportation had initially reported 10 a.m.

Today’s closure is not for the season, according to a DOT press release.

State transportation officials today were assessing the snowfall and potential avalanche danger to determine when they can re-open the highway.

The highway is to be closed from mile post 132 to milepost 170, or from Diablo Pass in the west to 14 miles west of Mazama in the east.
