TACOMA — It took a while, but the Burlington-Edison girls’ basketball team finally broke away from Kingston.
Trailing by one heading into the fourth quarter, the Tigers went on an 18-3 run on the way to a 53-41 victory over the Buccaneers in a loser-out contest Thursday in the Class 2A state basketball tournament.
The Tigers will face Northwest Conference rival Anacortes at 11 a.m. Friday with a state trophy, either fifth or eighth, on the line. Anacortes won the teams’ two earlier meetings.
Brenna Anderson scored six points in under a minute in the fourth quarter to give the Tigers the lead for good. Her rebound, putback and foul shot gave Burlington-Edison a 35-33 lead, then she banked in a 3-pointer at the shot-clock buzzer on the team’s next possession.
Keri Arendse scored 22 points to lead the Tigers (18-7), including five 3-pointers. Anderson added 10.
