The Western Conference will split into three divisions for football only beginning this fall.
Two of the divisions will encompass Class 4A schools, divided into North and South Divisions. Both Oak Harbor and Stanwood will remain in the North Division, joined by Arlington, Snohomish, Marysville-Pilchuck, Lake Stevens and Monroe. Arlington is the only school changing classifications for this cycle, moving up to 4A. Cascade will move to the South Division.
The South Division will also have seven members, with Cascade joining Mariner, Kamiak, Jackson, Edmonds-Woodway, Mountlake Terrace and Shorewood.
In addition, the five Class 3A members will form their own league, the Western Conference 3A, comprised of Everett, which is leaving the North Division, Meadowdale, Lynnwood and Shorecrest from the South Division, and the new Snohomish school, Glacier Peak.
The divisions will remain the same as they have been for other schools, with Glacier Peak presumably joining the South Division.
Completely ridiculous. How is it that Mount Vernon and Sedro-Woolley get screwed in this whole deal?
I mean, Squalicum drops to 2A which means there are now only 3 3A schools to fight it out for one playoff spot in the NWC. Meanwhile, 2A NWC gets 4 spots and the WesCo picks up 6 now with 2 from each division. Stupid.
You figure someone could figure it out. MV or SW could go 8-1 (presumably losing to Ferndale) and finish second in the entire NWC and stil sit out for the playoffs. Again...stupid.
