It looks as if Shawmonee Holm, who had successful careers for two Skagit County teams, has started a stint with a third team that’s a little farther from home.

Holm, a former basketball standout for Anacortes High School and the Skagit Valley College Cardinals, made her debut for Point Loma Nazarene Saturday, scoring 11 points off the bench in an exhibition loss to Cal-State Fullerton.

The La Conner boys’ soccer team is hoping to establish a winning tradition at this year’s state soccer tournament.

At the same time, another one may be ending.

Elke Macartney, whose son Eron is one of the Braves’ leading scorer, has baked cookies for the Braves’ opponents for the past four years. When he graduates, she said, she won’t be on the sidelines with the baked treats any more.

She first thought of the idea in Eron’s freshman year, when…

With one week of games left before crossover games, here’s what local teams are looking at, as well as possible crossover opponents:

Oak Harbor: The Wildcats are in the playoffs with the No. 1 seed out of the Western Conference North Division, and will host a first-round playoff game against the No. 5 team out of the Narrows League, which will either be Lincoln (2-2, 5-3) or Bellarmine Prep (3-2, 5-3). Oddly enough, the Wildcats won’t be a No. 1 seed if they reach the state…

LYNDEN — Trailing Lynden by 33 points with the clock winding down, the Anacortes football team had a little fun with the last few seconds.

Anacortes coach Charlie Bell put several of his starting offensive linemen in the backfield and let them carry the ball.

“It was just a fun thing,” Bell said. “Every lineman likes to carry the ball. We wanted them to have some fun. This was probably the only chance they would have to do that.”

LA CONNER — The La Conner boys’ soccer team has found a way to prepare for upcoming games on artificial turf.
