A restaurant in the 400 block of Commercial Avenue was burglarized overnight on Wednesday, April 30. Thieves made off with an undisclosed amount of cash and some computer equipment.
The thieves’ photographs were caught on surveillance equipment. Police are asking for the public’s help in identifying the three suspects.

Friday, April 25
• Police were called to an establishment in the 400 block of Commercial Avenue after a scuffle involving a 72-year-old Anacortes man, his 33-year-old grandson and a bouncer at around 11:30 p.m. The two men had been cut off and asked to leave about an hour before the incident. When they did not leave they were removed from the bar. In the ensuing scuffle the elderly man fell down and the grandson broke the bouncer’s glasses.
Sunday, April 27
• An officer was summoned to the Anacortes Ferry Terminal after a Border Patrol Officer and canine assistant discovered a small amount of marijuana inside a vehicle. An 18-year-old Bellingham man faces a charge of possession of marijuana.
Tuesday, April 29
• A 19-year-old man was arrested for four outstanding misdemeanor warrants and on charges of obstructing officers after he ran from his workplace to his home when officers tried to contact him. Once inside his apartment in the 800 block of 29th Street he wouldn’t let police in. The arrest warrants were for that address so officers got a manager to let them in. Once inside they found the man hiding in a closet. A 49-year-old woman also faces obstructing charges for her role in hiding the man.
• A 38-year-old Anacortes man was charged with theft after police received a report from a local construction business that the man was fired on April 28 but had charged merchandise worth $200 on the company’s account at a local hardware store. The items were not recovered.
Wednesday, April 30
• A 43-year-old La Conner man was arrested on charges of possession of a narcotic without a prescription and DUI after a routine traffic stop for a minor equipment violation on Highway 20 near Reservation Road around 8:30 a.m. As the officer spoke with the man about the violation, the officer smelled alcohol on the man’s breath. The man exhibited other signs of intoxication and the officer discovered pills and alcohol in his vehicle. He was transported to Island Hospital for a blood test then booked into the Skagit County Jail.
• A man who left a tackle box and $250 worth of tackle in the back of his truck for about five minutes at the north basin parking lot at Cap Sante Marina returned to find it missing. Police have no suspects.
Thursday, May 1
• A thrift shop in the 1100 block of Third Street was broken into overnight. Thieves forced the door open and pried open the cash register. It was not known if they got away with anything.
• A citizen reported seeing a woman driving erratically as she entered Anacortes on Highway 20 just before 11 a.m. Officers spotted her driving a Pontiac Grand Am and observed several violations before she stopped in Island Hospital’s parking lot. Officers noticed the woman’s speech and coordination appeared impaired. When asked if she had been drinking she replied she had not but had been taking several medications. A drug recognition expert from the Washington State Patrol was called to perform field tests and the woman was taken to Island Hospital for a blood test. The 39-year-old Mount Vernon woman was booked into the jail on a Snohomish County warrant for identity theft and faces a charge of DUI when the blood work returns.
• A man who left his truck parked on Cabana Lane for several days reported he returned to find someone stole the $2,000 catalytic converter off his truck.
• A 13-year-old girl injured her ankle after being struck by a car in the 1300 block of 22nd Street around 2:20 p.m. The vehicle’s driver motioned for her to cross but then allegedly rolled forward, striking her.
Saturday, May 3
• Officers saw a man and a woman arguing in the 400 block of O Avenue just after midnight. The man fled from officers and was captured behind a residence in the 1100 block of Fifth Street. A records check revealed he had two misdemeanor warrants for his arrest. He was cited and released for resisting arrest and then transferred to the custody of an Island County deputy for booking.
• A 17-year-old Anacortes girl was cited for negligent driving after the 1978 Oldsmobile she was driving collided with the left quarter panel of an unoccupied parked car just after 10 a.m.
• Eleven items of ID and credit cards were found by someone walking near Sharpes Corner on Highway 20 around 10:40 p.m. The items were found in the county’s jurisdiction and were turned over to the Skagit County Sheriff’s Office.
Sunday, May 4
• Security at an establishment in the 300 block of Commercial Avenue requested help with a subject who was causing a problem at the bar just before 1 a.m. The subject fled before officers arrived, but was relocated near the Star Bar. Only pushing and shoving took place and no one wanted to pursue charges.
