The Burlington Public Library dedicated the newest addition to its art collection early last week.
“Thinking of You,” a bright red steel sculpture by La Conner artist Joseph Kinnebrew, was installed outside the library building.
“My intention here is to present an icon of joy and celebration,” Kinnebrew said in a released statement.
This seemed appropriate for a library, which houses the records not only of human knowledge but their accomplishments and triumphs, he said.
Kinnebrew’s work has also been chosen for an outdoor commission at the Skagit Valley Hospital.

Burlington Library Foundation and Art Committee member, Larry Edwards, said the bright, cheerful piece would contrast with overcast days.
“The piece is artistic as well as whimsical and should appeal to young and old,” he said.
Funding for “Thinking of You” was provided by the city of Burlington and the Burlington Library Foundation.
The library has been adding artwork to its collection since opening its doors last May.
“Art and libraries are a natural partnership. Art energizes the public space and makes our environment more beautiful and inviting,” said Maggie Buckholz, library director.
The dedication began with an outdoor celebration of the piece, then will moved indoors for a visual presentation and program by Kinnebrew. The Burlington Public Library is located at 820 E. Washington Ave. For more information, call the library at 360-755-0760.
