Serenade Mom with gypsy jazz, low-down blues or party rock at one of the shows in Anacortes on the eve of Mother’s Day.

On the smoother side is popular Seattle Gypsy Jazz band Pearl Django, which performs at 9 p.m. Saturday, May 10 at Star Bar. Admission is $10.

Pearl Django incorporates the gypsy jazz style of Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grappelli with American swing music. Reinhardt and Grappelli were an institution in Paris during the ‘30s with the Quintette du Hot Club de France.

Also a quintet, Pearl Django draws Hot Club fans, guitar enthusiasts, lovers of string music, bluegrass devotees, world music fans, jazz buffs and aficionados of the new swing music. Transcending simple categorization, Pearl Django delights crowds at dance halls, nightclubs, folk music festivals and jazz festivals. An interview on NPR’s All Things Considered in 2001 brought them national attention and in 2002 Pearl Django performed at the prestigious Festival Django Reinhardt in Samois sur Seine near Paris.
Department of Safety presents Los Angles torch rocker Devon Williams & the Objective Perspective with Anacortes bands Trampoline Team and Afterthought Adam at 8 p.m. Saturday. Admission is $5.

Williams promises a “totally refreshing torch song rock party experience.” Trampoline Team is a brand-new project from members of seminal hometown pop group Well Done Dragon, and Afterthought Adam is a power trio with an upcoming and much anticipated debut CD.

Bluesman Nick Vigarino returns to Anacortes for a gig at the Rockfish starting at 9 p.m. Saturday. Vigarino’s mastery of the slide guitar and dobro is legendary. He tours internationally with an original fusion of Chicago and Delta style blues.

Vigarino has been compared to Ry Cooder and Leo Kottke and Washington Blues Society cited him as 2007’s best acoustic blues guitarist and 2006’s best slide guitarist.
