Authorities have confirmed that the body discovered Sunday on Blanchard Mountain is that of Jeremy Sean Scully of Bellingham, a teacher and coach who had been missing since last week.

The FBI confirmed the identity through a fingerprint match, the Skagit County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release today.

Three hikers from Whatcom County found the body Sunday afternoon in the woods near a launching area for hang gliders. The victim had been
shot in the head.

Scully, 38, disappeared Thursday while driving from his Bellingham apartment to a friend’s house in Alger. His car was found Saturday near Lake Samish with the door ajar and the key in the ignition.

Scully was a substitute teacher in Ferndale and assistant track coach at Ferndale High School.
