SEDRO-WOOLLEY — An assault suspect suffered a broken kneecap in a struggle with police officers who repeatedly used Tasers in an attempt to subdue the man Friday night.

Sedro-Woolley Police Lt. Lin Tucker said the incident began as a confrontation between two men in Cues-N-Brews bar on Metcalf Street just before midnight.

Eventually, management ejected the two fighting men, who continued the brawl outside the bar.

Tucker and officer Jason Harris were patrolling the area on foot when they came upon the fight. When the police officers ordered the two to stop fighting, one of the men punched the other in the face and started to run.

The officers yelled for the suspect to stop, but he kept going down an alley behind the bar.

When the officers caught up with the man, they used Tasers to subdue him. Tasers normally deliver an electric shock that temporarily disables muscle functions.

“It hit the subject in the right places to incapacitate him,” Tucker said.

However, the suspect got up and ran again. Police zapped him several more times. The man also fought with officers until he was tackled and arrested, Tucker said.

The suspect was taken to the Skagit Valley Hospital, where he will require surgery for the broken kneecap, Tucker said.

He was cited with fourth-degree assault and resisting arrest. The second man involved in the fight was not arrested.

That’s what happens when you have 25 bars in a 2 mile radius…

Report Violation Posted by Thumper  on  April 29, 2008 - 07:44 AM

Come on, it has nothing to do with the number of bars in a 2 mile radius! Do you know that these guys had been at any other bars?
Yes, people sometimes do stupid things like fight while under the influence. I think it has more to do with the people than the establishment.
Haven’t you ever been to a bar Manerva? If not maybe you should check out one or two of those 25 bars in a 2 mile radius! You might see that a few people cause problems, not everyone...you might even have a good time shooting a game of pool.
Are there really 25 bars in Sedro Woolley? WOW!

No way are there 25 bars within 2 miles.

Prove it, Manerva.  Name them.

OKAY...OKAY....so I exaggerated a little :):):)

And it WAS NOT a slam on Woolley.  I LOVE Woolley...but I do think it has too many bars for such a small town.  It just invites trouble…

Just my opinion, that and a quarter couldn’t buy you a coke…

At a historical high, we had thirteen drinking establishments and five brothels. Sedro-Woolley is getting close to those numbers in again for drinking, but those bars bring in a ton of revenue and a few of them have some really good food!

xbrettiex - you’re right..they do have some good food...and Thumper’s right about the people NOT the establishment.

Besides Woolley is a really fun place to kick up your heals! Good food, good fun & good friends!

Theres just to many bars in Woolly to close together every coner in town that you look at is a bar almost...even bars with faimly places rihgt next to them..when you take your family out to eat you shouldnt have to worry about the people from the bars...doing stupid acts out side of the bars...so dont get me wrong but there are getting close to to many bars in woolly...i have and used to live there for many years...so you cant tell me im wrong..i know how Sedro Woolly is.

You have to realize that these fights are taking place really late at night, if not the wee hours of the AM.  Families should never worry about going into town to enjoy an evening together.  My wife and I are always out dinning in downtown Sedro-Woolley and each time, I can tell you, there are plenty of families with young children enjoying the good food found in our town.

Agree with xbrettiex, Sedro-Woolley is changing for the better. I work a couple of days of the week in Sedro-Woolley and have had fine meals at Boondocks and now at Coconut Kennys. The night scene is alive compared to other local cities and so far Sedro-Woolley has not had a gun incident -like Cascade Brewery in Burlington did last Saturday night. Hostage situation! Why wasn’t that in paper? If that would have happened in Sedro-Woolley it would have been front page of SV fishwrap.

It WAS in the paper.  Try reading more than the comics page.

Irtnog, you’re right! Today’s paper, Friday, May 2nd the SV fishwrap buries the story on page 3, six days late. Should have been on front page a little sooner you think.

Report Violation Posted by Irtnog  on  May 02, 2008 - 11:32 AM

It was also in Tuesday’s paper.

Report Violation Posted by dan litton  on  May 02, 2008 - 12:54 PM

I look in the online edition of SV fishwrap and I can not find it on Tuesday’s archives. I do find where their story is dated April 29th but can not find in Tuesday’s online edition. What am I doing wrong? I see other stories. Does the actual paper edition have more news than the online edition?

Report Violation Posted by kim  on  May 03, 2008 - 03:09 PM

Yes, GoSkagit is a small sampling of the actual newspaper.

Report Violation Posted by Manerva  on  May 05, 2008 - 08:18 AM

You can access an electronic version of the whole paper if you pay for a subscription.

If there are “too many bars”, one or more will have closed unless the owner(s) don’t mind losing money.
