If you buy local products you do a whole lot more good for the environment than driving your hybrid or using canvas grocery bags could ever do.  Buying local cuts down on emissions because it doesn’t need as much trucking and doesn’t need all the packaging.

Global Warming is one of the top issues that affects us all. Buying local is one thing we can do. I don’t think people are willing to change their life style to truly make an impact here locally.

Why did the Anacortes ICLEI report not include the refinery and the idling oil tankers in their air quality calculations?

Where the worst air is.

The small Puget Sound city of Anacortes has some of the region’s worst air, partly because huge oil tankers motor past and park at nearby refineries.

“Global warming” is a natural climate cycle that has been propagandized into a “crisis” by the United Nations and various environmental groups for purposes of furthering their various agendas.

Report Violation Posted by dirk diggler  on  December 31, 2007 - 01:14 PM

Some climate change is natural. But lately humans and industry has helped warm the planet. I doubt the UN has used the same Scientific Data available to everyone as Propaganda.

Many thanks to the Skagit Valley Herald and its staff for producing an outstanding series on the local impacts of Global Warming.

Irregardless whether or not global warming is caused by human behavior it is irreversible.  Environmental responsibility is still warranted, but I think that it is time to acknowledge that adapatation is the only thing we have any control over.  Since I don’t believe that scientists have the ability to predict the weather fifty years from now (since they can’t do it for next month) I am not prone to buying into the hysteria.  I am actually excited to see what positive developments take place in previously useless areas (frozen) of the earth.

Irtnog...don’t forget the media, they need the “crisis”, or it is just another story.

jr123189:  you say that “adaptation is the only thing we have any control over.”

Perhaps you can adapt to the English language and quit using the work “irregardless”, which is not a word.

Time to evolve into a fully-upright, literate homo sapiens.  Take the leap!

Report Violation Posted by Tom Malthus  on  December 31, 2007 - 09:37 PM

Natural selection operates at the level of breeding and nothing else.

Stupid people clearly breed more often.

Therefore, our society is selecting for stupid people.

We are doomed.  Get over it.

Global warming is a whole lot of wailing and gnashing of teeth by people who need to find more productive ways to use their time and better causes to champion

Report Violation Posted by je123189  on  January 01, 2008 - 09:36 AM

Tom,

There is a difference between irregular usage and non-sense.  “Irregardless” is an Americanism that has been in general use for almost 100 years (see the American dictionaries and also http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=irregardless).  It’s idiomatic - like, “I could care less.” Of course it doesn’t make literal sense but to correct someone who uses it is a bigger faux pas than the usage itself.

Wow, goskagit.com asks us for our thoughts on global warming, and instead we try to teach each other grammar and spelling?

I personally don’t care if global warming happens or doesn’t, I want to see us all treating our planet better and not being so selfish and wasteful.  And if the end result means our planet is better to us, that’s all to the good.  Treat where you live well.  It’s just a realistic way of giving back.

Report Violation Posted by magnum  on  January 21, 2008 - 10:55 PM

ah, what happened to Global Warming, I’m freezing!

Report Violation Posted by scrugg  on  January 26, 2008 - 08:54 PM

The word global includes other planets including the sun and the moon. Global warming or COOLING occurs everywhere in the universe in various patterns or cycles that them scientists can’t even guess! If there is warming, then there is also cooling according to the old men in black!

Report Violation Posted by *shrug*  on  January 28, 2008 - 09:46 AM

Scrugg, that’s all well and good, but does that mean we have the right to be irresponsible with our planet’s resources?  I don’t care how you feel about global warming, just treat our planet better because you owe it that.  We all do.
