MOUNT VERNON — A Mount Vernon man was arrested Thursday night on investigation of assault and drive-by shooting in connection with at least two reports of a gun being fired in the area of East Division Street.
The shots were first heard at 8:20 p.m. by an officer patrolling the 600 block of Streeter Place, said Detective Sgt. Mark Shipman. The officer then heard a car accelerating on East Division near the intersection of LaVenture Road, and several more shots were fired near the intersection with 18th Street.
Several people in the area called 911 to report hearing gunfire in the same location, but Shipman said most of the callers saw nothing.
One caller told police that she saw a car apparently chasing another and flashes coming from one of the vehicles, Shipman said.
Shortly after that report, two young men from Concrete and Mount Vernon, called 911 to say another car had chased the one they were in and they had been shot at, Shipman said. The callers said they recognized a man in the vehicle.
Police arrested the 18-year-old man about 9:55 p.m. at a home on North LaVenture, according to Skagit County Jail records. Additional details were unavailable this morning.
Officers ask that anyone with information call 360-336-6271 or 911.
