Skagit County detectives are working today to confirm the identity of a body found Sunday afternoon on Blanchard Mountain.
The victim had been shot in the head, and the incident is being investigated as a homicide, Skagit County Sheriff’s Office Chief Criminal Deputy Will Reichardt said.
Three hikers from Whatcom County found the body Sunday afternoon in the woods near a launching area for hang gliders.
While the victim's identity has not been confirmed, police are looking into whether the man could be a Ferndale teacher who has been missing since last week.
Jeremy Scully, 38, disappeared Thursday while driving from his Bellingham apartment to a friend’s house in Alger. His car was found Saturday near Lake Samish with the door ajar and the key in the ignition.
Scully is a substitute teacher in Ferndale and assistant track coach at Ferndale High School.
