U.S. Rep. Rick Larsen today endorsed Sen. Barack Obama for the Democratic presidential nomination. Larsen, D-Wash., is one of the approximately 720 superdelegates to the Democratic National Convention who will decide the nomination.

Larsen had originally said that he would wait until the primary process was over before deciding who to support.

He said it is clear now that the primary process will not decide the nomination and that more superdelegates will start to weigh in for Obama to start the process of unifying the party. Obama won the recent North Carolina primary, but lost Indiana to Hillary Clinton.

Larsen said that the support for Obama in his own district as well as statewide in Washington was overwhelming.

Obama has in recent weeks survived some strong attacks and “showed that he was tough enough and resilient enough” to take on Sen. John McCain, the presumptive Republican nominee.
