Last night at I.O.O.F. hall the Anacortes High School (girls) Basketball team again demonstrated its championship of Puget Sound by defeating the West Seattle High School team by a score of 25 to 5. A large audience was present and the receipts aggregated $41.
April 18, 1918
The executive board of the Anacortes Red Cross chapter met the first of the week to decide on a location for their headquarters on Commercial avenue. Owing to the fact that so many workers are now enrolled in the chapter, and that it is sometimes rather difficult to locate the rooms where they are now located, the Red Cross decided to move their permanent headquarters to the Keystone building.... The surgical dressings and bandages section will continue to remain in the Elks Home.
April 12, 1928
The veteran codfish schooner Fanny Dutard, owned by Capt. J.A. Matheson, was towed to Seattle Saturday morning, where she went in drydock, in preparation for the trip to the Bering sea. Capt. Norman Matheson will command the schooner when she sails April 20.
April 15, 1948
Fishing season will officially open this Sunday, April 18th, in lowland lakes of the state of Washington and many fishermen of Anacortes are expected to take advantage of the opening day of fishing. Both Pass Lake and Heart Lake on Fidalgo Island which have been closed for two years for cleaning and restocking will be open for the first time in that period on Sunday.

Nearly 4,000 cases of oyster seed for planting in Puget Sound and British Columbia waters are due to arrive here Saturday from Japan. The freighter Toyokuni Maru will discharge 2,207 cases at Anacortes for trans-shipment by barge to British Columbia and another 1,673 cases for upper Puget Sound.

Anacortes is rolling out the red carpet this week to welcome the nearly 250 officers and enlisted men aboard the USS Skagit, due to arrive tomorrow at the Port of Anacortes commercial dock.
April 19, 1978
More than 450 boat owners mooring their boats in the Cap Sante Boat Haven will pay higher moorage rates beginning June 1, the Anacortes Port Commission decided last week. During a lengthy meeting that touched on a number of issues related to the port’s marina, the commission agreed to increase the moorage rates from 65 cents per foot to 85 cents per foot monthly.

A year’s worth of missing lab records has led to a $104,000 fine against Northwest Petrochemical Corp. by the State Department of Ecology.... The company will appeal. According to the DOE, Northwest Petrochemicals was required to keep lab records to show that the level of phenols had been measured in deep wells.
