MOUNT VERNON — With the postseason approaching, the best girls’ golf teams in the county participated in a traditional event Wednesday — the Skagit County championships.

Sedro-Woolley’s Rindy McLennan was the medalist with 27 Stableford points. Burlington-Edison won the team portion of the championship at Eaglemont Golf Course.

Burlington-Edison scored 95 points to top Anacortes (88), Mount Vernon (69) and Sedro-Woolley (56).

Tigers’ coach Greg Knutzen said it was another consistent effort from the Tigers.

“They were consistent, like they’ve been all year,” he said. “Anyone can win on any day.”

Kendra Welling led the five scoring golfers for the Tigers with 26 points, followed by Lexi Carter (24), Rachel Erickson (23), Kirsten Dalgliesh (22) and Kaitlyn Conijn (19).

Anacortes’ Crystal McDaniels and Kandace Londo each scored 19 points for the Seahawks and Sydney Volwiler had 20 for the Bulldogs.

Knutzen said the event is a chance for local golfers to get together before the start of their respective district tournaments.

“The county match is about fun and tradition — everyone has a good time,” he said.
