MOUNT VERNON — A 55-year-old Mount Vernon woman was killed Thursday night when her car traveled through the center of the roundabout at East College Way and Highway 9 and struck a parked truck at Big Rock Cafe and Grocery, the State Patrol reports.
Pamela Delacruz was traveling east on East College Way in a 2008 Pontiac Solstice just after 9 p.m. when she crossed the westbound lane and left the roadway near the Mount Vernon city limits, according to a report from State Patrol spokesman Trooper Keith Leary.
The car struck a light pole while traveling through the brush approaching the roundabout and then crossed over the raised roundabout and over a curb into the Big Rock parking lot, Leary said.
Delacruz's vehicle hit a parked Ford pickup truck, causing it to strike a Ford Explorer and Volvo SUV, according to the State Patrol.
Delacruz was pronounced dead at about 10 p.m. at Skagit Valley Hospital, reports say.
She was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision and drugs or alcohol are not believed to be involved, the State Patrol says. Delacruz possibly experienced a medical issue before the collision, Leary said.
No one else was injured in the incident.
