The Washington State Music Teachers Association announced the top two Skagit County finalists in the 2022 Conference Recital Competition, held on March 27 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Mount Vernon, according to a news release.

The top honor went to Miriam Alexa García Jiménez, the daughter of Rufina Jiménez and Isaac Garcia. Jiménez advanced to the State Convention Recital on June 23-25, where she will perform a Rachmaninoff Etude-Tableau Op. 33 No. 7 in G Minor.

Second place went to Jens Otterness, the son of Kipp and Danae Otterness of Mount Vernon. Otterness advanced to a District I Recital representing seven counties, where he will perform a Chopin Nocturne, Now. 15, No. 2 Larghetto.

Jiménez and Otterness are students of Sue VanNortwick, and the judge was Professor Gabe Manalac from Western Washington University.
