The Island Hospital Foundation raised nearly $395,000 during this year’s Gala of Hope, exceeding the previously set goal of $300,000. The April 16 event had 163 participants at the in-person event, with more tuning in from home due to continued concerns surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic.
Of the total money raised, $239,000 will directly support the hospital’s ICU. Remaining funds will go toward the hospital’s Greatest Need fund.
Notably, Jerrel and Janice Barto, Anacortes residents and well-known philanthropists, agreed to match dollar-for-dollar donations up to $50,000, which was met in the days following the gala.
Both the live and silent auctions were highly competitive thanks to the carefully put together auction items by the volunteer procurement team, said Janie Crane, executive director of the foundation, in an email.
“For 19 years the Gala of Hope has been a time to gather as a community for our community hospital,” Crane said. “We truly cannot thank the community enough for its support over all these years.
