The Anacortes School Board recently earned the Washington State School Directors Association’s Board of Distinction honor for the eighth time.

Current school board members are Bobbilyn Hogge, Marliyn Hanesworth, Jennie Beltramini, Matt Cutter and Erin Rieger. Student board representatives are Chloe Chambers, Cassius Tossavainen, Brady Graham, and Annaly Ellis.

Only 12 districts statewide have earned this award more than five times.

This year, 34 board earned the award statewide, out of 295 districts.

Anacortes and Mount Vernon were both recognized from Skagit County.

“This award reflects our district’s commitment to high achievement for all students,” Hogge said in a statement from the district. “As a board, we review data, engage in our own professional development, and make research-based decisions in support of our students.”

According to the association, the award honors the board’s work on its Annual Operating Plan and its commitment to community engagement throughout the pandemic.
