Jonn Lunsford will serve as the new director of the Anacortes Parks & Recreation Department, Mayor Laurie Gere announced Tuesday.
Lunsford will take the place of current director Gary Robinson, who is retiring at the end of the year.
“We conducted a national search and found the best qualified candidate here in Anacortes,” Gere said in a press release. “I look forward to working with Jonn, the Parks and Recreation staff, and the community through this transition in leadership. Mr. Lunsford brings 17 years of servant leadership and a wealth of knowledge about the complexity of managing our parks, trails, and the Anacortes Community Forest Lands.”
Lunsford currently serves as the operations and Forest Lands manager for the parks department. He will begin his new position Jan. 8 following confirmation by the Anacortes City Council.
“I am honored to be selected to serve as the Parks and Recreation Director,” Lunsford said in the release. “Anacortes is my home and I truly believe that community involvement is key to our success. Anacortes Parks and Recreation staff and I are committed to providing the environmental stewardship necessary to protect our local treasures for future generations. I am grateful for this opportunity and look forward to the challenge as we move forward.”
