An Anacortes woman who was hit by a pickup truck March 10 in the Safeway parking lot was recovering last week at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.
Family members told the Anacortes American that Laura Hamilton, who serves as a mayor-appointed member of the Anacortes Arts Commission, suffered a broken left ankle as well as injuries to her leg and shoulder.
She was first taken to Island Hospital then transferred to Harborview, her family said.
The initial word from the Anacortes police and fire departments was that Hamilton’s foot had been run over and that her injuries were considered “minor to moderate.” Her son later said her injuries were more extensive.
Son Drew Hamilton said on March 14 that his mother had surgery on her leg and shoulder and was doing well.
According to the police report, she was struck by a Dodge pickup about 12:30 p.m. as she was crossing the Safeway parking lot from 11th Street to the corner of 12th Street and Commercial Avenue.
The pickup driver reportedly was driving at a slow speed looking for a parking space when the incident occurred, Police Capt. Dave Floyd said. The case is under investigation.
