Some Christmas gifts never made it beneath their intended trees this year.
Between November and December, there were at least seven packages reported stolen, Anacortes Police Capt. Chris Fuller said. During that same time-frame last year, there were nine packages reported stolen.
The items had low dollar values, typically between $10 and $100.
“It’s a common theme for criminals this time of year,” Fuller said.
There’s a variety of ways to prevent these porch side thefts from happening, he said. Technology such as locking mailboxes, delivery notifications and porch pressure sensors can all help reduce the time packages sit unattended.
If the house will be empty, another useful tactic is to let neighbors know a delivery is expected, Fuller said. Alternatively, people can even have their packages sent directly to their neighbors, he said.
